Casting Miss Tattoo 2014

En la publicación de hoy les traigo algunas fotos del casting de Miss Tattoo para el 2014, organizado por la Academia de Artes Visuales Chaplin. Sólo alcancé a captar a un par de las concursantes, pero ellas resumen la idea de usar la propia piel como lienzo para expresar sus emociones en arte y tinta.

For today's post I have a few pictures of the casting for Miss Tattoo 2014, a beauty contest organized by Academia de Artes Visuales Chaplin. I could take photos of only two contestants, but they encompass the idea of using your own body as a canvas to express your emotions through art and ink.

Ecoroto

Con la idea de reciclar y crear arte a partir de materiales de desecho, la artista Gabriela Rodríguez ha creado estos “penetrables” al estilo Soto, hechos totalmente con juguetes y otros desperdicios plásticos recogidos en las playas. Esta artista también dicta cursos para niños, donde les enseña a trabajar con arcilla y a reciclar materiales para irles creando una conciencia de conservación desde temprana edad. With recycling in mind and creating art out of waste materials, the artist Gabriela Rodríguez came up with these “penetrables” a la Soto, made completely with toys and other plastic refuse collected from beaches. She also has courses to teach children work with clay and recycled materials, thus creating environmental awareness in their young minds. A few fashion design pics. Algunas fotos de diseño de moda

Recorriendo la interesante exposición con motivo de cumplirse treinta años del prestigioso Instituto de Diseño de Caracas (IDC), aproveché y tomé fotos de algunos de los modelos diseñados por los alumnos de este instituto, específicamente los alumnos de la sede de Valencia, que me gustaron por el toque medieval que tienen. I was walking through the expo that the renowned Instituto de Diseño de Caracas (IDC) held in order to commemorate their 30 years, when I saw these garments, designed by the fashion design students at their Valencia branch. The medieval look on them really caught my eye and I took a few pictures that you can see below. The models are from the Academia de Gisselle Reyes. Ayer en la tarde tuve la oportunidad de fotografiar a un grupo de jóvenes músicos de la Orquesta de Chacao mientras ensayaban. A pesar de mi intromisión con la cámara, los panas siguieron su ensayo como si yo no estuviera ahí y pude capturar varias tomas de estos talentos. Aquí se las dejo, agradeciéndoles la oportunidad de poder hacer estas fotos. ¡Disfruten!

Yesterday evening I had the opportunity to photograph a group of young musicians from the Chacao Orchestra while they were rehearsing. In spite of my snooping with the camera, these friendly guys just kept going with their rehearsal as though I weren’t there at all, allowing me to take several pics of them. Here they are, at last. My thanks go to these talented musicians for the chance of making these photographs. Enjoy!

EA, a great band - EA, una tremenda banda

From time to time, I've had the pleasure and privilege of photographing EA on stage. Well, this is a band with 15 years of experience that keeps their audience moving, dancing, singing and rocking non stop during their performances. Traduciendo el movimiento: el arte de la danza y el baile urbano en imágenes

Este posteo consta de una serie de imágenes de bailarines de la danza moderna, urbana y del Hip Hop, jóvenes talentosos que expresan toda su pasión a través del baile, que es su arte y su forma de vida. La audiencia, que parece estática en sus asientos, está en realidad recibiendo las emociones del performance y se conmueve, sintiendo que algo en sí mismos cambia con cada presentación.

Me apasiona el arte de la fotografía y quise traducir ese dinamismo y emoción en imágenes, lo cual no es tarea fácil, por lo que en esta ocasión dejé el obturador abierto por más tiempo para no congelar las escenas, permitiendo que la cámara capturara cada instante con la energía que estos talentos imprimían a sus coreografías, en forma de borrones alegóricos. Tal vez así el espectador pueda captar la velocidad y fluidez con que se mueven los bailarines.

Mi agradecimiento va a @DanceMachine07 de #CrewDanceFamily por la invitación al evento y a todo el grupo de @CcsUnder (Caracas Underground) y los demás talentos por un gran show. Mis disculpas a los grupos que no nombré y cuyas imágenes aparecen aquí, porque no tenía a mano sus nombres, pero siéntanse en libertad de dejarlos en los comentarios.

Finalmente, gracias por su tiempo para pasar por esta galería y apreciar esta “traducción” que intenté hacer del movimiento a la imagen estática.

Traslating movement: Art in urban dance into images

This post is a series of images of modern, urban and Hip Hop dancers, talented youths who express all their passion through dance, which is their form of art and way of living. The audience, seemingly static in their seats, is actually receiving all the emotions of the performance and is touched, feeling that something has changed within them with every show.

Photography is my passion and I wanted to translate all of that emotion and dynamism into images, which is not an easy task. For this occasion I left my shutter open longer so as to not freeze the scenes, allowing the camera to capture each instant with all the energy that these talented performers put into their choreography as allegorical blurs.

My thanks go to @DanceMachine07 of #CrewDanceFamily for inviting me to the show and to all the guys of @CcsUnder -Caracas Underground- and all the other talents. My apologies for those groups whose names I missed but feel free to add them in the commentary box below.
